Diwali is celebrated all over India. Diwali is celebrated on the day of Amavasya in the month of Ashvin. Diwali is a five-day festival. Dhanteras, Naraka chaturdashi, Diwali, New Year and Bhai dooj. The days from Dhanteras to Labhpancham are considered as Dipotsavi Parva. People clean their house before the festival of Diwali.
Lakshmi is worshiped on the day of Dhanteras. Hanuman and Bhairav are worshiped on the day of Naraka chaturdashi. On the day of Diwali, traders perform Lakshmi Puja and Sharda Puja. Besatuvarsh is the first day of the new year. People call each other ‘Happy New Year’ and wish each other a Happy New Year. On the day of Bhai dooj, the brother goes to his sister's house for dinner. And gives the sister as many gifts as she can.
According to Hindu mythology, this is a celebration of the arrival of Rama after 14 years of exile and the celebration of his victory over Ravana. On this day Lord Rama killed Ravana and returned to Ayodhya. To welcome him, the people of Ayodhya welcomed Lord Rama by providing lights and rangoli at home. In his memory, people decorate and light their houses with lamps and fill rangoli in the courtyard of their houses.
Diwali is a festival of light. As a symbol of the victory of virtues over the vices within a human being, they make a cotton diwali in a small clay pot and light it by filling it with oil.
Thus, Diwali is a festival of joy and rejoicing.
